Old Growth Resurrection, Regeneration, Intervention at Propeller Art Gallery Aug. 3 to 21. Opening Reception: Saturday, Aug. 6, 2 to 5 p.m. Broken Forests event Monday, Aug. 15, 7 to 10 pm featuring performance by Neryth Yamile Manrique (Colombia) and Cecilia Stelini (Brazil) and conversations and presentations by the Broken Forests Group. The exhibition at Propeller Art Gallery focuses on reconnecting artists and arts audiences to Old Growth trees and their habitats across the province. The Gallery component of the project includes the presentation of forty artists, working in a variety of mediums, who have created new artworks that resurrect our personal connections to wild forests, regenerate interest in the well-being of the forests, honour the people who have devoted their lives to saving these old trees and intervene or record interventions that focus public attention upon issues of concern to environmentalists. The exhibition includes both Invited artists from the Broken Forests Group and artists chosen from an Open Call for Submissions to the project. 

Pathways, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Neilson Park Creative Centre, 56 Neilson Dr., is a series of hands-on art and environmental based workshops, demonstrating teachings of the land through Indigenous, naturalistic and artistic perspectives. Continues Aug. 3, 7, 10. More info.

Golden Mile Food Equity Community Project: Mural Routes and Feed Scarborough have partnered to deliver The Golden Mile Food Equity Community Project, a City of Toronto Cultural Hotspot Signature Project. This project combines sustainable food practices and art-making workshops to harvest a strong sense of community belonging. Participants will decorate a terracotta pot, learn how to grow a plant for their home and contribute ideas to four designs that will be used to decorate picnic tables. All supplies and light snacks will be provided for participants. Workshops are open to all ages and abilities. Families that reside in the Golden Mile area and/or belong to the Feed Scarborough community are encouraged to attend. A fun-filled afternoon awaits children ages 6 to 12 at Ontario’s Legislative Building this summer. Participants will be introduced to provincial parliament during a two-hour interactive program featuring a variety of activities.Families will explore the Legislature during a scavenger hunt; get creative during a craft activity; and learn how debates work in the Legislative Chamber. Movies Under the Stars returns to Downsview Park for its 6th annual movie program. The show will start at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.), but movie-goers are encouraged to arrive an hour early to get a good spot. The picnic-style format is back, but a new location is being tried out between the Orchard Pavilion and the Lake. This event is free, registration will open approximately one week before each show date. Through to August 28, 2022, Toronto Outdoor Picture Show proudly presents Curtains Up!, a 21-evening festival programme of performance-themed films. At long last, TOPS is thrilled to finally return to its four pre-pandemic home parks, with events taking place at Fort York, Corktown Common, Bell Manor Park, and its signature series, Christie Pits Film Festival. This summer, no advance tickets will be required. TOPS screenings will once again be open to anyone who would like to attend, with no barriers to entry. TOPS is always free to attend, and charitable donations make this possible. Right outside Union Station in downtown Toronto, through to Aug. 28, there will be nonstop programming, which includes a headline performance by JUNO nominee Tyler Shaw on opening day, music from Toronto's hottest DJs, Blue Jays game screenings, games nights and so much more. The event will also feature some the city’s favourite food vendors, including Gus Tacos, Mikey's Smashburgers, Naansense by Butter Chicken Roti, and Souvla by Mamakas. More info.

Oluseye Ogunlesi explores Canada’s role in the trans-Atlantic Slave Trade through his installation Black Ark, through to Sep 5 at Ashbridges Bay Park. More info.

9 & 99: The Howe/Gretzky Exhibition: An exhibition unlike any other, paying homage to the most prolific scorers of our generations. 60 Works 60 Years: Toronto Outdoor Art Fair at 60. Exhibit showcases 60 artworks acquired by the City from the Fair over the past 40 years. Each year the mayor, assisted by City curators, attends Toronto Outdoor Art Fair to select a work to be brought into the municipal collection through the Mayor's Purchase Award (formerly the Toronto Archives Award), exclusive to TOAF.
